Chemical and Rheological Characterization of a Facial Mask Containing an Olive Pomace Fraction

Cosmetic interest in agro-industrial byproducts is growing. In fact, many studies have shown that these residues present bioactive compounds with several skincare applications. One example olive byproducts, such as pomace, which has a composition rich phenolic compounds. As the production of oil increasing, amount being generated escalating, significant constraints their safe disposal due to phytotoxic nature. The study aimed to, from zero-waste perspective, characterize and add value sub-byproduct, semi-solid paste (SSP) derived patent process pomace extraction. chemical analysis this residue revealed high moisture protein, fat, ash contents. Furthermore, vitamin E total phenolics flavonoid content were assessed, well antioxidant activity, using DPPH• (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical) FRAP (ferric reducing power) methods. Based on primary assessment, facial mask properties was developed. Rheological showed developed presented shear thinning behavior, thixotropy, texture characteristics desirable for use. results successful incorporation SSP into masks provides preliminary assessment byproduct’s impact appearance performance formulations.
